    • A list created by the American Library Association of frequently asked questions on banned and challenged books.

  • PEN America

    • PEN America tracks book bans and fights censorship in public schools and libraries across the country. The organization also publishes banned book lists and reports on what is happening in the United States

  • The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE)

    •  FIRE provides an online library of resources and research on free speech and other civil liberties.

Resources to help defend books from challenges or bans.

  • United Against Book Bans Book Résumés 

    • Book Résumés provided help teachers, librarians, parents, and community members defend books from censorship. They detail each title’s significance and educational value and are easy to share with administrators, book review committees, elected officials, and board members.

    • If you hear of a challenge at your local library, support your librarian and free and open access to library materials by contacting the ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom. 

  • Report a Book Ban | PEN America

    • Report book bans through PEN America. Book ban reporting will always remain confidential to PEN America’s Freedom to Read researchers and cases can be reported anonymously.
